Golf Courses in Colorado Springs | Peña Picks: Summer Edition
Summer in Colorado Springs means longer days, mountain views, and some of the best golf weather in the country.
Welcome back to Peña Picks: Summer Edition, where The Peña Team shares favorite local experiences and summer activities that make Colorado such an incredible place to live. This week, Kaden is talking about one of his favorite summer pastimes: golf.
Colorado Springs offers a wide range of golf experiences, from historic city courses to challenging championship-style layouts. Whether you are a beginner looking to get out for a relaxed round or an experienced golfer searching for a challenge, there is a course here for every skill level.
These are a few of Kaden’s favorite places to play this summer.
Patty Jewett Golf Course
Patty Jewett is one of the most historic and recognizable golf courses in Colorado Springs. Originally opened in 1898, it remains a local favorite because of its classic layout, walkability, and incredible views of Pikes Peak.
What Makes It Special
- Historic Colorado Springs golf course
- Beautiful Front Range and Pikes Peak views
- Walkable course layout
- Great atmosphere for golfers of all skill levels
Where the Challenge Is
The biggest challenge at Patty Jewett is the greens. Many putts have more break than expected, especially for first-time players. The mature trees and tighter fairways on certain holes also reward accuracy over power.
Kaden’s Tips
- Play an early morning round for cooler temperatures and great mountain views
- Spend extra time reading putts
- The clubhouse patio is one of the best post-round spots in town
Patty Jewett is a great mix of Colorado golf history and approachable playability.
Antler Creek Golf Course
Located in Falcon, Antler Creek Golf Course is known for wide-open views, a links-style feel, and one of the longer layouts in the area. Designed by Rick Phelps, the course stretches through rolling terrain with water hazards, bunkers, and challenging greens.
What Makes It Special
- Expansive views of Pikes Peak
- Challenging championship-style layout
- Wide fairways balanced by strategic hazards
- One of the top public golf courses near Colorado Springs
Where the Challenge Is
Antler Creek challenges golfers with distance and wind. The course is long, and the open layout means wind can completely change how holes play from day to day. Strategic bunkering and water hazards also force players to think carefully about club selection.
Kaden’s Tips
- Bring extra golf balls because the native areas can be unforgiving
- Pay attention to wind direction before every shot
- The back nine can play especially tough during afternoon winds
For golfers looking for a more competitive challenge, Antler Creek is one of the best tests in the region.
Cheyenne Shadows Golf Club
Located on Fort Carson, Cheyenne Shadows Golf Club offers one of the most scenic golf experiences in southern Colorado. With mountain backdrops and well-maintained fairways, it has become a favorite among military families and local golfers alike.
What Makes It Special
- Incredible mountain scenery
- Well-maintained greens and fairways
- Relaxed atmosphere
- Convenient south-side location
Where the Challenge Is
Cheyenne Shadows rewards precision. Tree-lined fairways and water hazards come into play throughout the course, and several approach shots require careful distance control.
The course also plays differently depending on weather conditions and elevation changes.
Kaden’s Tips
- Club selection matters more here than most players expect
- Keep approach shots below the hole whenever possible
- Afternoon rounds can get windy near the foothills
Cheyenne Shadows combines scenic golf with a layout that keeps players engaged from start to finish.
Why Golf in Colorado Springs Is Different
Golf in Colorado Springs comes with advantages you do not find everywhere else:
- Cooler summer mornings
- Mountain scenery on nearly every course
- Longer ball flight because of elevation
- A wide variety of public courses nearby
For many people moving to Colorado Springs, Monument, Falcon, Peyton, or Pueblo West, access to outdoor recreation like golf is a major reason they choose to live here.
It is possible to play a morning round with mountain views and still spend the afternoon hiking, dining outdoors, or exploring local events.
Summer Golf Tips for Colorado
Stay Hydrated
Colorado’s dry climate and elevation can affect energy levels quickly during long rounds.
Start Early
Morning tee times usually offer cooler temperatures and calmer wind conditions.
Adjust for Elevation
Golf balls travel farther at higher elevations, especially for visitors from lower altitudes.
Pack Sunscreen
The Colorado sun is stronger than many people expect, even on cooler days.
Colorado Springs has no shortage of great golf courses, and each one offers something completely different. Patty Jewett brings history and classic golf, Antler Creek delivers a true challenge, and Cheyenne Shadows combines scenery with strategic play.
